AIA Membership - If you are a legal resident of the United States, and licensed to practice architecture in California, you are eligible to be a member of The American Institute of Architects. As The American Institute of Architects is a three-tiered organization, when you join The AIA, you will automatically become a member of all three components - National, State and Chapter. Associate AIA Membership - A non-licensed person participating in career responsibilities recognized by the California Architects Board as constituting credit towards licensure, a holder of a professional degree in architecture, or a faculty member in a university architecture program is eligible to become an Associate Member of The American Institute of Architects. As the American Institute of Architects is a three-tiered organization, when you join the AIA, you will automatically become a member of all three components - National, State and Chapter. As an Associate, you may not use the initials "AIA" alone, but must write out the title "Associate AIA" when referring to membership status. Click here for more info and application.
International Associate Membership - One who has an architectural license or the equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority and demonstrates honorable standing in the profession in the locale in which you are licensed is eligible to become an International Associate Member of The American Institute of Architects. As The American Institute of Architects is a three-tiered organization, when you join the AIA, you will automatically become a member of all three components - National, State and Chapter. As an International Associate, you may not use the initials "AIA," but must write out the title "International Associate Member of The American Institute of Architects" when referring to membership status. Professional Affiliates Membership - Professional Affiliates are non-architects, professionals whose work is related to the practice of architecture and may include contractors, engineers, planner, landscape architects, etc. Click here for more info and application.
Unique BASIC Membership - After numerous discussions at the local, state and national levels, the Membership Recruitment Committee and the Board of the AIASCV Chapter is proud to offer a LOW-COST category of membership, called "Basic Membership" aimed at unlicensed professionals. This new category recognizes that it is in the long-term interest of the profession and this Chapter to encourage AIA membership for younger professionals, and the cost of membership dues for local, state and national AIA is often a deterrent. Friends of Architecture - Eligible persons are those interested in architecture but who have no financial involvement in the practice of architecture or in the design or construction industry. Examples would be public employees such as planners and building department members.
