2009–2010 SCHOLARSHIPS AIA Santa Clara Valley

AIASCV will grant awards from three scholarship funds for the 2009-2010 academic year. The three funds include:

  • The AIASCV William R. Hawley Fund
  • The Leo & Trinidad Sanchez Fund
  • The Ehrlich Rominger Fund

The deadline for applications is March 30, 2009 at 5 pm. Application must be received in the office by this time.

The future of the architectural profession resides with the next generation of architects. The AIA Santa Clara Valley understands the importance of assisting with the education of these future professionals. Last year the AIASCV awarded three talented students a total of $11,650 in scholarship grants. The AIASCV now has three scholarships funds as noted below:

William R. Hawley Fund
The applicant must be a legal resident of Santa Clara County who attends a school with an architecture program or a legal resident of the U.S.A. who attends a school with an architecture program in Santa Clara County. Previous recipients of this scholarship are eligible.

Leo & Trinidad Sanchez Fund
The applicant must be Hispanic/American (At least one parent of Hispanic or Hispanic American Heritage), a legal resident of Santa Clara or Santa Cruz County, and must be a student currently enrolled in a program at any school leading to a degree in architecture.

Ehrlich Rominger Fund (first time granting this year)
The applicant must be a legal resident of Santa Clara County who attends a school with an architecture program or a legal resident of the U.S.A. who attends a school with an architecture program in Santa Clara County.

David W. Lakamp Fund (not being granted in 2009)
For any architecture student attending any school of architecture with a special interest in architectural design, including any combined studies, such as architecture and art, and architecture and engineering.

ARCHITECT REGISTRATION EXAMINATION (ARE)

The Architect Registration Examination (ARE) examines candidates for their knowledge, skills and ability to provide the various services required in the design and construction of buildings. The ARE is the only examination prepared by NCARB and has been adopted for use by all 55 member boards and the Canadian provinces as the registration examination required of all candidates for architectural registration.

STUDY CENTER AVAILABLE AT THE AIASCV OFFICE

The AIASCV office in downtown San Jose, has an ARE study center available that includes reference material and a set of Archiflash cards. Mock exams are available on the AIASCV website (see EXAMS above).

CALIFORNIA SUPPLEMENTAL EXAMINATION (CSE)

To become a licensed architect in California, you are also required to take the California Supplemental Exam or "oral exam." You are eligible for this exam when you have passed all nine divisions of the ARE. The exam is offered multiple times a year in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
